His coaching and facilitating career began in 1988 after graduating from Princeton University with a degree in Public Policy and International Relations. While conducting research in Mumbai, Cairo, and the U.S., he saw that technical solutions on their own rarely solved complex problems. He turned his attention toward how people work together to bring the best of their ideas to fruition across all sectors.
During a $2B construction project in Ireland, A.J. resolved longstanding tension between the construction and operating units of the organization through a one-day retreat. Engaged to work for a year with the COO of a U.K. credit-card brand and his direct reports, he facilitated their annual planning retreat and provided individual coaching and group facilitation. The team reported significant increases in efficacy and productivity, to which they credited not to A.J.’s legendary DJ skills, but to his engaging techniques and approach.
Recently, A.J. facilitated several nine-month, action-learning programs for high-potential managers at HSBC. After receiving client feedback scores that were off the charts, he was hired as their program Head of Faculty.
Hailing from Canada, A.J. has lived and worked in the U.S., U.K., and Brazil. He speaks conversational French, fluent Portuguese and is moderately convinced that he should have been born a Brazilian.
